The Bill Ledbetter Project is fortunate to have Jennifer Skates join our musical family. Contributing lead vocals, flute, and trumpet, Jennifer brings a new dynamic force to the group, and we couldn’t be more excited. Besides a professional, soulful and powerful vocalist/multi-instrumentalist, Jennifer also brings her songwriting, composing and lyrical skills to the project. After one rehearsal, we knew she had the kind of style, versatility and positive attitude that would blend seamlessly with the project. True to form, it took her no time to get up to speed on some of our original music. Now, we are looking forward to including some of her original compositions. The newest one called “The Well” (our new favorite) is her original work from a previous collaboration with a group named Fat Finger.
Raised in a musical family with the Alabama Bluegrass Hall of Fame Brasher Brothers Band, Jennifer enjoys performing and recording. She enjoys continuing tradition while broadening her scope with a wide array of musical styles ranging from traditional Bluegrass and Folk, to Jazz, Blues, Rock, and Experimental Fusion.
Some of her many creative projects include: The Brasher Brothers and the Next Generation (Bluegrass/Traditional); Fat Finger (Rock); Swing Theory (Jazz); Jeremy & Chris Burns; Dangerous Cousin (Southern Rock); Folkswagon (Newgrass/Pop); Not Yeti (Acoustic Poetry); Trapaw (Metal); and The Other Day, an original Birmingham-based Nu Jazz group.
Jennifer’s arrival has sparked a new level of creativity for the band and we are looking forward to taking the music up a notch by putting a new twist on existing material and writing and recording new songs. Stay tuned for news and updates as we move this groove forward!
A huge thanks to Wil for tweaking the knobs and recording us so we could jam and to Bev for snapping pictures!
